Is *Food* Really the Issue?

Food is meant to be enjoyed.

It’s meant to nourish us, to bring us together with family and to give us some joy.

But yet so often we beat ourselves up for the food we eat and then live in shame for the weight we gain. It’s a cycle that never stops unless we put our foot down and do something about it.

If you have followed my work you might have heard me say,

"Emotional eating is not really about food, but it's also not not about the food."

So what do I mean by this?

Well, when we focus on the food we really are missing out on what is really going on in our lives.

Food is about seeking comfort and sometimes it’s also about avoiding our feelings, numbing the pain or distracting us.

In what ways has food supported you over time? How has it served you through periods of stress and uncertainty?

It’s likely that you are beating yourself up for something that helped you and supported you through feelings that were difficult to feel, allowing you to cope.

What if you stopped judging yourself up over food and focused on what is really going on underneath? What would be possible if you shifted your relationship to food to one that is based on self-love and acceptance? What if you found a way to be intuitive and flexible while making choices that are right for you every day?

We all seek comfort and want love.

Our goal is to find new ways to do this in a loving and compassionate way.

Food is not good or bad. It is just a tool we use to cope.

Let's start finding new ways to support ourselves.
